BizWorld Ireland partnership with Bank of Ireland has significantly enhanced the delivery of entrepreneurial workshops in primary schools nationwide
- Bank of Ireland has provided over 200 workshops
- Over 150 Bank of Ireland staff members have been trained as tutors
- Equipping this generation of primary school children for the jobs of tomorrow
BizWorld Ireland’s partnership with Bank of Ireland began in 2015 and is enabling entrepreneurial workshops to be rolled out to primary schools nationwide. The Bank of Ireland Bizworld workshops, which include a Dragon’s Den type competition, inspire and empower children, aged 10-13 (typically 5th class) to learn about money management, critical thinking and enterprise in a fun and creative way.
Since the partnership began 150 Bank of Ireland staff members around the country have been trained as tutors by BizWorld Ireland, enabling them to run 2-day workshops with primary students in their schools. The partnership with Bank of Ireland has significantly enhanced the number of workshops being delivered by BizWorld Ireland. Workshops feature everything from brainstorming to business development and finally a Dragon’s Den style pitch of the business. Through Bank of Ireland’s involvement, the partnership will deliver 250 workshops to primary school children in this school year.
Speaking about the initiative, Fiona McKeon, CEO of BizWorld Ireland said; “We are delighted to be partnering with Bank of Ireland. Since we first started offering these workshops in 2011 the level of interest from primary schools has grown significantly but we simply did not have the resources and manpower to meet the demand for our workshops.
“Having Bank of Ireland on board is a real game-changer given the Bank’s extensive branch network in over 250 locations nationwide. The partnership enables us to deliver workshops on a much greater scale to primary schools around the country as Bank of Ireland staff members commit time, enthusiasm and energy to the initiative. Business is the only subject taught at secondary, which is not taught at primary, so these workshops are a really valuable addition to the primary school offering. As we continue to train more Bank of Ireland tutors, our reach will grow and develop, ensuring that many more primary schools children have an opportunity to partake in the programme. ”
Laura Lynch, Head of Youth Banking, Bank of Ireland, commented: “As Ireland’s leading bank for students of all ages we are delighted and proud to partner with BizWorld Ireland. In addition to sowing the seeds of enterprise, creativity and money management, our Bank of Ireland BizWorld tutors will facilitate primary school children to learn important skills such as critical thinking, decision making, risk analysis, teamwork, active learning, entrepreneurship and leadership, whilst also having fun.
“Primary schools are a vital part of local neighborhoods. Through our extensive branch network, and our ongoing programme of enterprise towns, our strong presence and connection with communities nationwide makes this partnership a fantastic fit. In close partnership with the BizWorld Ireland team, we will continue to work together to grow the programme equipping this generation of primary school children for the jobs of tomorrow.”
Bank of Ireland BizWorld 2-day workshops are free to primary schools and require very little involvement from the class teacher. The responsibility for the start, middle and completion of the workshop lies with the Bank of Ireland trained tutor. The workshop comes to life on day two when a member of the local Bank of Ireland branch and a local business person acts as Dragons in the Den with the class as they pitch their business idea.
